Senate to Consider Amnesty Again

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) has reported that the U.S. Senate Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Refugees, will hold a hearing on April 30 entitled "Comprehensive Immigration Reform in 2009, Can We Do it and How?"

The Subcommittee is chaired by Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY), who has packed the witness panel with individuals hopelessly biased in support of amnesty. While there is one witness, Kris Koback, who is a friend of true immigration reform, the remaining witnesses represent a "who's who" of open border advocates and business interests who want to import cheap labor.

Some of the other witnesses named thus far are:

* Alan Greenspan, Former Chairman, Board of Governors, Federal Reserve System.

*Eliseo Medina, Executive Vice President, Service Employees International

* Doris Meissner, Senior Fellow, Migration Policy Institute.

La Raza has organized a grassroots lobbying effort to coincide with the Senate hearings this week and, according to FAIR, this nationwide effort will include phone calls, and -- will culminate with marches on May 1st demanding amnesty.

True immigration reformers understand that so-called "comprehensive reform' is not in the best interest of the American people. Granting amnesty to illegal aliens; rewards law-breakers, imposes a huge cost burden on American taxpayers, and does nothing to solve the problem of illegal immigration. The fact is, as we saw after the 1986 amnesty, it only encourages more illegal immigration.

In 2007, true immigrations reformers who care about America, defeated a "comprehensive" reform amnesty with a firestorm of calls to Congress. FAIR is asking the American people, to once again, contact their U.S. Senators and Representatives and let them know that we are opposed to any effort to pass a, "comprehensive immigration reform bill," that includes amnesty for illegal aliens.

Trent Franks calls Homeland Security Report "Outrageous"

April 27, 2009 - Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) gave the following statement in response to ongoing controversy over the Department of Homeland Security's recent report on rightwing extremists and potential domestic terrorism, as well as Secretary Napolitano's failure to appropriately apologize for the offensive assertions made in the report:

"The outrageous, unsubstantiated, politically-loaded DHS report on "Rightwing Extremism," shows a stunning lack of understanding of the real and imminent threats America is truly facing." Franks stated. "It is also a disgraceful insult to the true heroes of our country. If veterans, pro-life and states' rights advocates and those who seek to protect the Constitutional rights of themselves and their fellow Americans are at higher risk for becoming domestic terrorists, then over 80% of the people in my District can be categorized as a potential national security threat.

"I would also be very interested to see what taxpayer-funded resources went into producing this disgraceful report and what documents and evidence they are using to justify it. Using the resources of the Department of Homeland Security to target and ostracize political opposition, as it would appear is being done, sets an incredibly dangerous precedent and it's something America's federal government should have no part of.

Franks continued, "The report claims the election of an “African American president” and the downturn in the economy has caused “right-wing extremism” and could possibly even radicalize our veterans. To say that the noble and patriotic men and women who wear this nation's uniform and have laid their lives on the line to protect their country are now one of the greatest potential domestic security dangers to our country is so staggeringly irrational and insulting that I am unable to find the words to express it.

"President Obama and Secretary Napolitano owe it to our veterans and the rest of the American people to immediately and unequivocally disavow and repudiate the preposterous conclusions in this report, and they should also seriously consider firing those who wrote it. The President and Secretary have already waited far too long and the explanations and platitudes the American people have received thus far are understandably being perceived as half-hearted and insincere.

"Every day they continue to delay brings increasing encouragement and amusement to the real terrorist enemies of this nation."

Goldwater Institute Develops Plan to Pay Top Teachers $100k +

Rock Star Pay for Rock Star Teachers: How Teachers Can Earn Six Figures

Phoenix--We hear it over and over: teaching is one of the most important professions in the country. So why is it hard to attract the top college graduates to the classroom? The answer is simple: schools treat teachers like factory workers rather than professionals.

"We simply cannot draw more people into teaching without addressing the elephant in the room," says Matthew Ladner, Ph.D., vice president of research at the Goldwater Institute. "Teaching, as currently practiced, is an unattractive career to many people because it does not reward merit."

A report released today, "New Millennium Schools: Delivering Six-Figure Teacher Salaries in Return for Outstanding Student Learning Gains," shows how the system can be improved to give rock star teachers rock star pay without requiring more money from taxpayers.
Top teachers can be identified using value-added assessments, a method of evaluating teacher effectiveness by measuring what their students learn throughout the year. Once highly-performing teachers are identified, just compensation can begin.

Dr. Ladner and his co-authors, Dr. Gregory Stone and Dr. Mark Francis, propose a system of merit bonuses for teachers based on student gains in the classroom and for meeting school-wide goals set by administrators.

The report also outlines a way to further compensate the best of the best, called "master teachers." Once identified, master teachers would be given more students to teach. That means bigger classroom sizes. Since research demonstrates that teacher quality trumps the impact of class size, a master teacher could effectively take on more students and still have better results than other teachers.

The report proposes giving master teachers a bonus for each additional student they add to their classroom. The bonus would amount to two-thirds of the per-pupil funding that the school receives. Under this formula, for example, a master teacher in Arizona who taught 32 students instead of 20 could make $102,000. With the potential to make a six-figure salary, competition for teaching positions would increase greatly.

For evidence that this approach to teacher recruitment and compensation works, we can look to South Korea. In South Korea teaching is a highly esteemed, highly compensated profession. Teachers are recruited from the top 5 percent of college graduates. Even with an average class size of almost 50, South Korean students score much better on math and science exams than American students. Some observers dismiss the disparity as the result of cultural differences. Maybe. But as one South Korean policymaker noted, "The quality of an education system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers."

Democrat Wants Border Closed

CORNING, N.Y. - Today Member of the House Homeland Security Committee Congressman Eric Massa (D-NY) called for an immediate and complete closure of the Mexican border until the H1N1 Swine Virus is contained and controlled. Rep.
Massa also called for the public to pay attention to the medical professionals at the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and the WHO (World Health Organization) and follow their instructions.
"The public needs to be aware of the serious threat of swine flu, and we need to close our borders to Mexico immediately and completely until this is resolved," said Congressman Eric Massa.
"The CDC and the WHO are monitoring this situation closely and I call on all Americans to pay attention and follow their instructions as this situation develops.

I have complete faith in our medical professionals and look forward to a swift conclusion to this problem.

I am making this announcement because I see this as a serious threat to the health of the American public and I do not believe this issue is receiving the attention it needs to have in the news.”

Pullen Wants State Bar to Stop Partisan Game Playing

By Randy Pullen,
Chairman,
Arizona Republican Party.

We need fair and impartial jurists, and today I called upon the State Bar of Arizona to stop playing games with Arizona’s judicial selection system and submit a slate of nominees for the Commission on Appellate Court Appointments that actually have a chance of being confirmed by the state Senate. Constitutionally, the Governor is mandated to select one nominee from the list provided by the State Bar and forward the selection to the Senate for consideration. But the State Bar only forwarded one name to Governor Brewer for consideration, forcing the submission of an unacceptable nominee who stands little if any chance of being confirmed.

The people of Arizona expect more from their judicial selection system, and this cast of trial lawyers at the State Bar is making a mockery of the so-called merit selection and retention system. For years, the State Bar has promoted the names of the chosen, liberal few. They should be ashamed of themselves for failing in their constitutionally mandated duties.

According to the Arizona Nominating Commission, there are three judicial nominating commissions in Arizona -- the Commission on Appellate Court Appointments, the Maricopa County Commission on Trial Court Appointments and the Pima County Commission on Trial Court Appointments. Each commission has 16 members: 10 public members and 5 attorneys, plus the Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court or a designated Supreme Court justice, who serves as a voting chairperson.

These Commission members are to be appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Public members may not be judges or practicing attorneys. Attorney members must have practiced law in Arizona for five years and are recommended to the Governor by the State Bar of Arizona.

When Governor Brewer received the selection for the commission, she immediately wrote a letter to the State Bar requesting additional nominees. We all know that the State Bar had a willing partner in pushing a radical, liberal judicial agenda with Governor Napolitano. With Governor Brewer now occupying the 9th Floor, a balanced and impartial court system will hopefully be in order. But I’m not going to hold my breath. As the State Bar did the same thing to former Governor Symington. It is difficult to take the State Bar seriously when they are so obviously partisan in their selections to the judicial nominating committee.

A 21st-Century Civil Rights Battle - An Op-Ed by Congressman Trent Franks

A 21st Century Civil Rights Battle;
By Rep. Trent Franks;

The most recent U.S. census reveals that abortion clinics are engaged in an insidious form of racial and sex-based discrimination.

In a report published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Columbia University economic researchers Douglas Almond and Lena Edlund said they found a significant gender imbalance between males and females within immigrant populations in the United States, which they think provides "evidence of sex-selection, most likely at the prenatal stage."

The data revealed unnatural sex-ratio imbalances within segments of certain immigrant populations, including those originating from India, Vietnam, Thailand, Armenia and especially China, where government-enforced "one child" policies and a culturally engrained "son preference" have made sex-selection abortion so prevalent that boys outnumber girls by as much as a 2-to-1 ratio in rural communities.

One Harvard University economist estimated that more than 100 million women were "demographically missing" from the world because of widespread and underreported practices of prenatal sex selection, an astonishing figure.

Regardless of one's position on abortion, this form of discrimination should horrify every American. The idea of killing a baby simply because she is a girl is reprehensible. Unsurprisingly, a March 2006 Zogby International poll found that 86 percent of Americans supported a prohibition on sex-selection abortion. Indeed, what good are the hard-won liberties of voting and other women's rights if babies may still be aborted simply for being girls?

Ironically, we are doing a better job internationally on this issue than we are at home. At the United Nations' 2007 annual meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women, 51st Session, the U.S. delegation spearheaded a resolution calling on countries to eliminate sex-selective abortion. The commission has urged governments of all nations "to take necessary measures to prevent ... prenatal sex selection."

Congress also voiced strong disapproval of the practice when 362 members of Congress, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, passed a resolution in 2006 condemning the "communist government of China" for "its one-child policy, which promotes sex-selection abortion and female infanticide on a massive scale, a 'gendercide' which has led to millions of 'missing girls.' " Notwithstanding this widespread revulsion of sex-selection abortion and despite proof it occurs in America, sex-selective abortion remains legal and, therefore, tacitly condoned.

Abortion is being used not only to abort boys and girls just because they are boys and girls. Equally reprehensible is the reality of race-based abortion. Last spring, some federally funded clinics were exposed as agreeing to accept funds from persons who expressly asked that their donations be used to reduce the black population by abortion.

The history of the American abortion movement is replete with evidence of the purposeful placement of family planning clinics in areas with high concentrations of minorities. In fact, as many as 70 percent of abortion clinics are located in inner-city or minority neighborhoods. The impact has been devastating to black families. Fifty percent - 1 in 2 - of black children are aborted today in America.

A September 2008 report by the Guttmacher Institute revealed that black babies are five times likelier to be aborted than white babies. A quarter of the black population is demographically missing.

Racism in any form should cause us to recoil, but the reality of these staggering figures should make us all violently ill. Do we realize that, primarily through federally funded abortion clinics placed in our inner cities, we are contributing to the deadliest form of discrimination in our country's history against the most-discriminated-against minority in American history by systematically eliminating fully half of all blacks waiting to be born?

The United States has worked hard to eliminate widespread and systematic race and sex discrimination, which we recognize as a detestable part of our past. In both race and sex discrimination, Americans ultimately responded in the strongest possible legal terms by enacting constitutional amendments to end slavery and give women the right to vote (the 14th and 19th Amendments), ending the government sanction of such discrimination. However, eliminating discriminatory practices still must be among our highest priorities.

It is past time to reject the discriminatory disgrace of aborting a child based on race or sex. To that end, I have introduced H.R. 1822, the Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act of 2009, which would prohibit the practice of, or solicitation or acceptance of funds for, race- or sex-selection abortion.

Americans can support the effort to address this unspoken evil by encouraging the Democratic Leadership, including Mrs. Pelosi, and their own members of Congress to address this insidious form of discrimination by enacting this legislation.

Selecting girls and only girls for elimination or reducing the population of a given ethnic group or race distorts the entire shape of our society and undermines the entire foundation of human dignity and equality.

If we cannot find common ground on such a bedrock American principle, regardless of our differing perspectives on abortion, what hope remains?

Rep. Trent Franks, a Republican, represents the 2nd District of Arizona in the U.S. Congress. He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and vice chairman of the Subcommittee on Commerical and Administrative Law.

Former Legislator Indicted

The Associated Press has reported that former Arizona legislator John Kromko, D- Pima County, has been indicted earlier this month on nine counts of identity theft, nine counts of forgery, and one count of fraudulent schemes in connection with his nominating petitions when he ran for the Arizona House last year.

Kromko, 68, has been active in Arizona politics for over 40 years and served in the legislature 1976-90.

The Pima County Attorney's Office said Kromko forged the signatures and used the address and other identifying information of more then 20 people on his nominating petitions. They also claim that he forged the signatures of petition gatherers.

Kromko ran unsuccessfully in 2008 against incumbent Democrats Phil Lopes and Olivia Cajero Bedford for the Arizona House of Representatives in LD 27.

AZ Senate Quick to Accept Stimulus Money

(STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX) – The Senate passed legislation today clearing the way to receive federal stimulus money for a 13-week extension in unemployment benefits for out-of-work Arizonans and $1.6 billion for AHCCCS.

“It was vital that we acted quickly to ensure these funds get to people in Arizona who have lost their jobs during these devastating economic times,” said Sen. Barbara Leff, sponsor of SB 1322 and chair of the Senate Commerce and Economic Development Committee.

“This was the right thing to do. Our taxpayers deserve the money to come back to our state,” said Sen. Carolyn Allen., sponsor of SB 1102 and chair of the Senate Healthcare and Medical Liability Reform Committee.

Senate Bill 1322 allows for a 13-week extension of unemployment benefits – paid 100 percent by the federal government – to Arizonans. These benefits could be extended another 6 weeks (with federal funds) if the state unemployment rate reaches 8 percent. It was 7.8 percent in March.

Senate Bill 1102 makes a necessary technical change in state law in order to qualify for and receive $1.6 billion in federal stimulus dollars for the AHCCCS program.

Both bills are emergency measures that passed with a 2/3 vote, allowing them to become effective immediately after the governor signs them. The Senate transmitted the bills to the House where they are expected to pass Thursday and then go to the governor.

Criminals and Illegal Aliens Beware - Here Comes the Sheriff, Again

Despite a federal investigation instigated by Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and allegations of racial profiling by those opposed to immigration control and enforcement, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will not be intimated.

Sheriff Joe has announced that he will mobilize 200 volunteer posse members and deputies tomorrow at approximately 5:00 PM for another crime suppression operation. The location of the operation will not be announced until early tomorrow afternoon.

Maybe the feds will do a ride along with the Sheriff's Office as part of their investigation.

Democrats Learned a Lesson From '94 Gun Ban

From the Houston Chronicle - Chron.com/national

Obama heeding lesson from ‘94 gun ban

By STEWART M. POWELL and JENNIFER A. DLOUHY WASHINGTON BUREAU
April 20, 2009, 9:29PM

WASHINGTON — The last time a Democratic president and a Democratic Congress banned civilian sales of military-style assault weapons, it took American voters just seven weeks to rebel.

They handed Republicans control of the House and the Senate for the first time in 40 years.
One of the casualties in the backlash was Rep. Jack Brooks, D-Beaumont, who sponsored the ban and then promptly lost his seat in Congress in 1994 after 42 years of service.

The lesson wasn’t lost on President Obama when Mexican President Felipe Calderon suggested reviving the defunct weapons’ ban to help combat drug cartel violence along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Obama insisted he had “not backed off” his campaign promise to make the expired ban permanent.

But he bowed to political reality, nonetheless.

“None of us are under any illusion that reinstating that ban would be easy,” Obama said. “And so, what we’ve focused on is how we can improve our enforcement of existing laws.”

Any hint that the ban might be resurrected alarmed some Texas Republicans, largely elected by voters who ardently support the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and a Texas constitutional right “to bear arms in defense of himself and the Republic” that dates back to 1836

Few Willing To Take Risk

Fresh restrictions on weapons are “not the solution to the problems occurring in Mexico,” declared Sen. John Cornyn, R-San Antonio.

In fact, some assert the White House would be capitalizing on border violence simply to push a gun control agenda.

“It is not our responsibility to keep guns out of Mexico — and reviving the ban will not affect the way Mexico protects its border,” said Rep. Ted Poe, R-Humble, a former criminal court judge.
Said Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands: The issue remains ending bloodshed by lawless drug cartels and “not a divisive return to policies that infringe upon the American people’s Second Amendment rights.”

The truth is, few believe Obama could win a battle to resurrect the ban anyway, even among Democrats.

“We’ve reached a point where there aren’t many people who will stick their political necks out to vote for sensible gun control,” says Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., the second ranking Democrat in the Senate leadership.

The Democratic-led Senate already dealt a body blow to the gun control movement when 22 Senate Democrats, led by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., joined 40 Republicans to shelve firearms restrictions in the nation’s capital.

Merely hinting at renewal provoked 65 House Democrats, many from swing districts, to warn the administration that they would “actively oppose” it.

The latest nationwide polls show “little evidence that gun control is at the moment a high priority for Americans,” says the Gallup Poll’s “Pulse of Democracy.”

Barely 49 percent surveyed wanted tighter laws on firearms sales, the lowest percentage since 1990. Americans remain evenly divided on whether to make it illegal to manufacture, sell or possess assault rifles.

“There’s a realization on Capitol Hill that the 1994 law was ineffective,” says Andrew Arulanandam, a spokesman for the National Rifle Association. “The logical question is why should we resurrect a law that was proven to be ineffective?”

Obama Still Backs Ban

Obama backed the ban during his presidential campaign. His transition team listed “making the expired federal assault weapons ban permanent” a goal.

The White House says he still supports it.

“The president is also, though, focused on taking actions to stem the flow of guns moving south that go across the border (and) making progress on something that we are likely to see progress on,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters.

The narrow ban that was adopted in 1994 and expired in 2004 prohibited the sale of 19 military-style assault weapons, “copy-cat” models and ammunition magazines that were capable of containing more than 10 rounds.

Sam Crump responds Speed Camera Operator Killing - Saddened by the tragic news, sends condolences to the victim’s family

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX (April 20, 2009) – Today I awoke to the tragic news that an employee of Redflex had been shot and killed while performing his work in a speed camera van on an Arizona highway. It is my understanding the suspect in the shooting has been apprehended.

It is well known I have introduced legislation to ban the use of speed cameras on Arizona’s highways. I am also aware of the escalating passions on both sides of the public debate over speed cameras. While we don’t know at this time what the motives were for this senseless killing, many have understandably speculated that it was due to anger against the speed cameras. To the extent there is any truth to that, I call on all individuals to reduce the war of words on this topic. Whatever the motives for this crime were, there is absolutely no justification for such a heinous act.

It is my hope that the culprit in this case will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But at this time of sorrow I wish to offer my condolences to the family of the victim and to his co-workers at Redflex.

Voter Registration Down for DEMS and GOP

The latest statewide voter registration figures show an increase of 17,342 voters to give Arizona a total 3,087,996.

The two major political parties, Democrats and Republicans, however, have experienced a decline in voter registration. There are now 1,137,262 registered Republicans in Arizona, a decrease of 3,347 since January. Democrats now number 1,046,140, a decrease of 986 voters since January.

The largest increase has been in the category of no party preference, which now numbers 880,128 voters, an increase of 20,033 since January.

Libertarians saw an increase of 1,630 registered voters for a total of 20,256 and the Green Party added 12 voters, for a total of 4,210.

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett said, "Regardless of party affiliation, I am proud to see Arizonans continuing to voice their opinion by taking the first step in registering to vote. Even in this non-election year, consistent voter outreach and educational efforts will remain a key component of my administration."

Bennett also said, "All of this would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of the county recorders."

Simcox to run against McCain

According to Politico , Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC) president, Chris Simcox plans to run against John McCain in the 2010 GOP primary for the senate.

The MCDC is not to be confused with Jim Gilchrist's Minuteman Project, which is a separate organization also working on the issue of border security and illegal immigration control.

Politico reports that Simcox will resign from the MCDC and release the following statement,

"John McCain has failed miserably in his duty to secure this nation's borders and protect the people of Arizona from escalating violence and lawlessness. He has fought real efforts over the years at every turn , opting to hold our nation's border security hostage to his amnesty schemes. Coupled with his votes for reckless bailout spending and big government solutions to our nation's problems, John McCain is out of touch with everyday Arizonans. Enough is enough."

In April 2005, Simcox teamed up with Gilchrist to organize the Minuteman Project, which brought nationwide attention to the southern border. At that time, Janet Napolitano, then the governor of Arizona and the mainstream media, labeled the Minuteman members as being vigilantes, however, there has never been a case of a member of The Minuteman Project physically harming anyone. The members of the Minuteman Project, who were all carefully screened, merely observed and reported illegal entry into the United States, they do not enforce the law but acted as a sort of neighborhood watch on the border.

Jim Deakin also plans to run against McCain for the 2010 Republican nomination for the senate.

Napolitano, Pro-Life Advocates may be Terrorist

Napolitano Defends Putting Pro-Life Advocates in Terrorism Report, Backlash Starts

by Steven Ertelt
LifeNews.com Editor
April 20, 2009

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- In a Sunday interview, the head of the Department of Homeland Security defended including pro-life advocates in a new report the agency produced saying "opponents of abortion" are likely to engage in extremism or terrorism.

The report has caused a significant backlash with some calling for firing DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano.

In an interview with CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday, host John King questioned Napolitano on the line in the report saying possible threats could come from "groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion."

King asked Napolitano whether the department has active investigations on "anti-abortion groups" concerning potential extremism or terrorism and the Obama cabinet official declined to answer.

She said she would not comment on the activities of the department and claimed that pro-life groups have a "history" of such actions.

Napolitano said that, although "people have different points of view about abortion" and that the Obama administration values free speech rights, some pro-life advocates cause her agency concern.

"On the other hand, at the very edge of the [abortion] debate, at the very edge are the extremist groups that have committed violent crimes," said Napolitano. "They've committed bombings and the like."

"And that is where you cross from constitutionally protected free speech, freedom of assembly, all the rights we cherish, into homeland security and law enforcement. When is that right not being exercised, it's being abused," she added.

Napolitano refused to give any concrete examples of pro-life groups that may cause her agency to include them in a report to police on terrorism, claiming the total number of groups overall on all potential domestic issues were "far too numerous to mention."

Napolitano's comments appear to be a reversal of her initial position backtracking from the report. The Obama official defended the report Thursday, but said the section including pro-life advocates should not have been included.

"If there's one part of that report I would rewrite, in the word-smithing, Washington-ese that goes on after the fact, it would be that footnote," Napolitano said Thursday on Fox News.

The report sparked outrage within the pro-life community and the Thomas More Law Center, a pro-life law firm, is suing Napolitano over it.

Richard More, one of the leaders of the legal group, told LifeNews.com, the report is "a diatribe against those who oppose the policies of the Obama administration."

"It is a declaration of war against the American people and our constitution" and a "prelude" to "hate speech laws targeting Christian churches and others who oppose abortion."

And now LifeNews.com has received emails from several groups, some of them pro-life, calling on Obama to fire Napolitano from her position on his cabinet.

Obama "must immediately fire Janet Napolitano," one email said.

"He cannot allow her to resign. He cannot simply demand that she apologize to the American people. And he most certainly cannot allow her to stay on the job," it added.

Jay Sekulow, the head of the American Center for Law and Justice, another pro-life law firm, told LifeNews.com that including pro-life Americans as potential terrorists is an "outrageous characterization."

"This characterization is not only offensive to millions of Americans who hold constitutionally-protected views opposing abortion – but also raises serious concerns about the political agenda of an agency with a mandate to protect America," he said.

SHADEGG DECLARES WAR ON ARIZONA GOP

It seems that there will be an opening for a new Member of Congress from Arizona's Third Congressional District, currently represented by John Shadegg.

Based on recent remarks by Shadegg against the Arizona Republican Party and the Maricopa County Republican Committee and their respective chairmen, rumors of his retirement must be true.

According to a report in the GOPUSA NEWS, which has been confirmed, John Shadegg, first elected to Congress as a Republican in 1994, has declared war on the Arizona Republican Party and the choice Republican State Committeemen made to elect Randy Pullen as their state chairman and the Maricopa County Republican Committee because they elected Rob Haney as their chairman.

On Monday, April 13, Shadegg was the quest speaker at a meeting of the Arizona Chapter of the Republican Jewish Coalition in Scottsdale, AZ.

According to GOPUSA NEWS, Shadegg talked about a wide range of issues that included encouraging other members of Congress not to interact with CAIR (the Council on American Islamic Relations) about which he distributed literature, the lack of commitment by many Republicans in Congress to freedom and free market principles, and the Republican Party in general.

Shadegg said that once Republicans took control of Congress in 1995, many were corrupted by their power as the majority. This led to excess government spending, increased use of earmarks, and more corruption. Shadegg further said that the real election calling for change was in 2006, when the Democrats were elected to the majority.

After distancing himself from the Republicans in Congress, Shadegg took questions from the audience.

The GOPUSA News article said that in response to a question about getting involved in political organizations, Rep. Shadegg encouraged conservatives to get involved in grassroots organizations such as the Republican Jewish Coalition, contact their elected officials, and talk to people about issues in order to present a conservative view.

Shadegg then said, again, according to GOPUSA, that getting involved in the Arizona Republican Party or the Maricopa County Republican Committee was a bad idea because they were being poorly led and were at the lowest level since Evan Mecham was governor. He also said the leaders of the Arizona state party and the Maricopa Committee used the illegal immigration issue to create conflicts in the Republican Party.

Obviously Shadegg does not consider attacking his fellow Republicans in Congress and the Arizona Republican Party and the state and county Republican Chairman as a cause of conflict within the Republican Party.

After saying that the Republican Party leaders should focus on having a big tent, he said he is definitely not supportive of people like Russell Pearce who wants to arrest and deport illegal immigrants on a huge scale.

In response to another question Shadegg back-peddled from his recommendation, not to get involved with the Arizona Republican Party and apologized for saying that and then said, people should get involved in the GOP to remove the elected state and county chairman.

It would appear that after 15 years in Washington, Shadegg no longer believes that the grassroots of the Republican party are competent enough to elect their own state and county chairman or to take a position on illegal immigration. Perhaps he wants us to just drink the Shadegg brand of Kool Aid and let McCain and the other Republican members of the Arizona Congressional Delegation appoint our officers and tell us what position to take on the issues. It seems that Shadegg believes a political party should be run like a corporation, with control coming from the top down instead of from the grassroots up.

If Congressmen John Shadegg dislikes the selection of Randy Pullen by the grassroots of the Arizona Republican Party as their state chairman and, the election of Rob Haney has their county chairman, perhaps Shadegg should do the honorable thing and leave the party he no longer supports.

Unfortunately for Shadegg, there are only two major political parties in America, the Democratic and Republican parties, and both are governed from the bottom up. Two parties controlled from the top down were the Fascist and the Communist, and both were failures, therefore, Shadegg can do and say what he wants, but we the Republican precinct and state committeemen, who represent the Republican voters, are the Republican Party and not the Republicans, INC.

Therefore, the Republicans of CD 3, will need a good conservative Republican candidate who has enough respect for the grassroots of the GOP to allow them to select their own leaders and to make their own decisions on the issues to represent them as the Republican candidate for Congress, to be selected by the people of CD 3 in 2010.

Nationwide -Tax Revolt- Report from East Coast

Nationwide -Tax Revolt- Report from East Coast

By Helaine Chersonsky

This is an observation from the Eastern shore; the Providence, Rhode Island tea party, held at the Rhode Island state house, was hugely successful. At least 2,000 to 3,000 people showed up. It was a sea of flags, placards and all ages participated; lots of young people attended which was gratifying. As I drove back to my current home in Massachusetts, the brisk spring evening held hopeful portent for me as a conservative and as an American. The bronzed statue of Nathaniel Greene; the epigram on the front of the Rhode Island state house about religious freedom gave me renewed inspiration for American revival. This is the stuff of real revolution; a revolution of activism instead of apathy, a revolution of thoughtfulness instead of negligence. People were joyful and uplifted. It was a seminal moment.

One of the founding fathers, it may have been Benjamin Franklin said, “The citizenry must be ever vigilant to keep the Republic” of America. We have left the running of our country to professional politicians, who have seduced us into thinking that they have our best interests at heart; in reality the politicians have acted like foxes in charge of our money, our freedom and our government, when it was always supposed to be the people who were supposed to be in charge of the government. That is what the founding fathers always knew: when politicians could vote themselves the largesse from the treasury into their pockets, there would be no stopping them in looting the treasury and in enslaving the general population. There is always the personal ego wish to be a king in every person; we now have 535 kings sitting in Congress, distributing largesse and abusing and oppressing regular citizens. It's time to say enough is enough and vote them out of office and establish term limits. Congressional fiefdoms have to be destroyed or they will destroy the American electorate and citizens and America will become a third-rate social experiment, without the freedom.

Tancredo: Immigration Debate a Fraud without Secure Border

Commentary: Immigration debate without true border security is a fraud
By Tom Tancredo;

Tom Tancredo is a former Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Colorado and founder of the Rocky Mountain Foundation.

There are two main political obstacles to a new amnesty bill in this session of Congress.
First, the White House has other priorities despite the whining from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. If President Obama and Rahm Emanuel were all that committed to a new amnesty bill as a top priority, the National Council of La Raza would not be sending out a newsletter alert asking its followers to bombard the White House, Reid and Pelosi with calls and emails demanding action “Ahora!” — which they did yesterday. The fact is, the economy makes any such proposal “DOA” in Congress without a full-court press by the White House — which is not going to happen—and even then it would be a loser.

Second, Senator McCain managed to secure the Republican nomination only after neutralizing the amnesty issue by telling Republicans—“I’ve got the message: border security must come first.” If he now supports an amnesty bill while the border fence is incomplete and border security is still years away, he will be universally chastised as a fraud.

The bottom line? Let’s build the fence, a true double fence like we have in San Diego, increase Border Patrol manpower to 25,000, and only then have a national debate about what to do with the 20 million illegal aliens already here. A debate without true border security is a farce and a fraud.

The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of Tom Tancredo.

NARAL Push Congress to De-Fund Abstinence Ed

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The prominent pro-abortion group NARAL has asked members of Congress to eliminate funding for abstinence education programs in the FY 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations bill. NARAL president Nancy Keenan sent a letter to pro-abortion Rep. Paul Hodes, a New Hampshire Democrat, last week urging him and his colleagues to press for eliminating or cutting the funding further beyond the cuts the pro-abortion Congress made to abstinence previously. “I thank Rep. Hodes for taking the lead and answering the public's call to move away from the failed Bush-backed 'abstinence-only' policies that have put our teens at risk," Keenan claimed. "For eight long years, President Bush and his anti-choice allies in Congress pushed hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars into [abstinence education programs].” Meanwhile, Hodes sent his own letter to members of Congress asking them to eliminate funding for the Community-Based Abstinence Education program. CBAE is one of three separate programs that provides abstinence education funds for programs that have been proven to help teenagers make healthy choices. Reps. Lois Capps (D-CA), Louise Slaughter (D-NY), Jane Harman (D-CA), and Diana DeGette (D-CO) were among the pro-abortion lawmakers signing on to the letter. The new omnibus spending bill that Congress recently approved and President Barack Obama signed, cut total funding for abstinence education by $14.2 million compared with the previous year. It also cuts abstinence education funding by $42 million compared to what President Bush had asked for in his last months of office. The cuts are seen as the first step by abortion advocates in Congress to zero out all abstinence education funds through the Community-Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) program, the Adolescent Family Life Act, and through Title V. Democrats cut the CBAE budget by 13%, leaving only $95 million to fund national programs to help teenagers make healthy choices for a positive lifestyle.

Russell Pearce- Pledge to End Sanctuary Policies in AZ

From Russell Pearce

This Republic is at risk with out of control politicians and Police Chiefs who refuse to keep their Oath's of Office and enforece the laws of this land and the Constitution. Our Citizens have a Constitutional right to have our laws enforced. The Deaths, the maimings, jobs lost by Americans, lower wages, cost to educate, medicate and incarcerate fall on the shoulders of those who refuse to enforce our laws. Government is complicit.

According to studies illegal aliens commit violent crimes a 2 to 3 times that of native born citizens. The media continues to ignore the real issue. The media continues to ignore the real issue. PUBLIC SAFETY!!! The Maricopa County Sheriff has had more impact on public safety than other law enforcement agency in Arizona. The fact that the liberal open border media and the anarchist don't like it is to dang bad. Get it right. The hearings ought to be on Sanctuary cities like, Mesa, Chandler, Tucson and Phoenix. In this nation over 9,000 killings every year at the hands of illegal aliens, 25 each and every day, 12 by stabbings and shootings and 13 by DUI and related crimes. Phil Gordon and Chief Gascon should be the ones called to the podium to defend their sanctuary policies that are in actual violation of federal law 8 USC 1723 and 1644 and justify their support of criminals and their refusal to enforce our laws and protect our citizens. The one issue that would have the greatest affect on public safety is the enforcement of our immigration laws.

Arizona:
Phoenix, #2 in the world in kidnappings, home invasions

Phoenix, 3rd most violent city in America

Arizona the home invasion, car jacking, identity theft capitol of the world

1 million gang members in the U.S. mostly made up of illegal aliens

1 million sex crimes by illegals; More than 100 sex offenders crossing border daily, according to Deborah Schurmann-Kauflin: Based on a one-year in-depth study, a researcher estimates there area about 240,000 illegal aliens sex offenders in the U.S. who have had an average of four victims each.

1/3 of federal prisoners are illegal aliens for serious crimes

If you want lower taxes, less crime, smaller classrooms, shorter emergency room lines and safer neighborhoods ENFORCE OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS. The formula is simple. Attrition by Enforcement!!!!

You want to know why crime is down in our cities? It sure is not the result of policies that tie the hands of our police officers. It is a direct result of Arizona passing some of the toughest immigration enforcement laws in the nation (Arizona's Fair and Legal Employment Act) and the direct result of fewer jobs and of course Sheriff Joe's willingness to honor his Oath of Office and enforce all the laws.

Prince William County has announced that violent crimes decreased by a whopping 22% in 2007, demonstrating once again the value of protecting the quality of life by having local law enforcement participate in federal efforts to reduce the number of illegal aliens unlawfully present in our communities. The previous year, more than half of all murders in the county were committed by illegal aliens. By encouraging illegal aliens to depart, and ensuring that those who do not and are arrested for state and local crimes are turned over to the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation, we’ve addressed to some degree an important public safety issue that few states and localities have the courage to even consider, much to the detriment of their own residents.

Some continue to ignore the 75% of our citizens that want our borders secure and our laws enforced.

"If it be asked, what is the most sacred duty and the greatest source of our security in a Republic? The answer would be an inviolable respect for the Constitution and Laws" - Alexander Hamilton.

A Congressional Report: CONFIRMING THE THREAT AT THE SOUTHWEST BORDER; on crime, violence, drugs, gangs, terrorist, sex predators coming into America among the 4 million to 10 million entering illegally ANNUALLY!!!! Over 9,000 people killed in the U.S. each year at the hands of illegal aliens; 25 each day, 12 by stabbings and shootings & 13 by DUI or other vehicular crimes.

WHY DO WE STRUGGLE WITH WHAT IS RIGHT? Another Police Officer killed by an illegal alien. Officer Shane Figueroa (a great Patriot and a Hometown hero of Mesa). I have introduced 5 years in a row legislation to allow Police Officers to enforce our laws and remove the political handcuffs placed on them by our local politicians and chiefs. Our citizens deserve no less, our law enforcement have the authority, and we must allow them to do their job.Supported by; Phoenix Law Enforcement Association (P.L.E.A.), Border Patrol Officers Association, Maricopa County Republican Party, Arizona State Republican Party, Sheriff Joe, County Attorney Andrew Thomas,, Pachyderm Coalition, Arizona Republican Assembly, Minutemen Civil Defense Corporation, Arizona Association of African American Republicans, You Don't Speak For Me ( a national group of Hispanci citizens), many other patriotic groups and according to the polls over 75% of Arizona Citizens.

My personal background in law enforcement has given me a unique and in-touch perspective with the needs and hazards experienced by rank-and-file police officers. PLEA understands the danger of ignoring illegal immigration. The burden of blind-eye police department policies and open-border philosophies were paid for with the lives of not only law enforcement officers, but many other good citizens as the danger clearly spread beyond law enforcement into our communities with more lives being lost. The quality of life in our state is being sacrificed for political correctness. Phoenix Law Enforcement Officers, PLEA, Border Patrol and I stand side by side for the rule of law.

MARK SPENCER President of P.L.E.A., "Mark my words another police officer will be killed as a result of Mayor Gordon's pretended revision of their policy on when you can ask and when you cannot ask on one's immigration status. ANOTHER POLICE OFFICER, HUSBAND, FATHER, AMERICAN KILLED BY AN ILLEGAL ALIEN. GOVERNMENT IS COMPLICIT IN THE DEATHS, MAIMINGS AND BILLIONS IN COST TO OUR CITIZENS.Simply enforce our laws and you will see less crime, lower taxes, smaller class sizes, shorter lines in our emergency rooms and reduced deaths, murders, maimings, drugs, home invasions, car jackings, kidnappings, jobs taken from Americans, reduced wages, an ultimately save the taxpayer billions of dollars. We cannot afford to "NOT" enforce our laws.

Attrition by Enforcement.

THIS IS THE "ONLY" LAW WE PUT CONDITIONS ON BEFORE A POLICE OFFICER CAN ENFORCE, THE ONLY CRIMINALS WE PROTECT BY POLICIES!!!!!!! NO OTHER CRIME OR CRIMINAL GETS THIS PROTECTION BY RESTRICTIVE POLICIES BY OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS.

Citizens have a constitutional right to expect the protection of federal laws which prohibit unauthorized activities by non-citizens and are denied equal protection law enforcement, police department or magistrate fails to enforce those laws.

I PLEDGE; TO WORK TO ELIMINATE ALL SANCTUARY POLICIES IN THIS STATE, THE RESULT WILL BE LESS CRIME, LOWER TAXES & SAFER NEIGHBORHOODS.

Our local & national leader’s refusal to enforce U.S. Immigration laws & failure to carry out their constitutional duty to defend this nation from that invasion is guilty of impeachable offenses.

Our elected officials must have the courage – the fortitude – to enforce, with compassion but without apology, those laws that protect the integrity of our borders and our rights as lawful citizens.

We are sowing the seeds of our own destruction in America today.
I believe in our Constitution, the rule of law, in liberty & freedom. I will not retreat from the defense of our Republic or the protection of our citizens from our enemies foreign or domestic!!!

Tom Jenny Backs GOP Legislators Refusal to Hike Taxes

Tom Jenny, the director of the Arizona chapter of Americans for Prosperity (AFP), today applauded the announcement of a plan by Republican leaders of the Arizona Legislature to cover the state's $3.3 billion FY 2010 deficit without raising taxes. Senate President Bob Burns (R-Peoria) and House Speaker Kirk Adams (R-Mesa) outlined the plan yesterday at a meeting of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC).

Burns and Adams suggested $840 million in new spending reductions, $500 million in continuing reductions from FY 2009, $1.3 billion in federal stimulus funding, $390 million in fund transfers from non-general fund balances, and non-tax revenue of $300 million. The plan may involve some short-term borrowing.

Jenny said "We're not enthused about the debt financing elements, but it's better than raising taxes during a recession."

The Burns-Adams plan stands in contrast to Gov. Jan Brewer's proposal to raise taxes by a billion dollars a year for three years, which would amount to over $300 per Arizona household per year according to AFP AZ..

Recently released economic projections by the Goldwater Institute and the Beacon Hill Institute suggest that a billion-dollar sales tax increase would cost Arizona 14,400 private-sector jobs and a billion-dollar income tax increase would cost 26,000.

AFP AZ announced that Senate President Burns and Speaker Adams are welcomed to speak at the Taxpayer Tea party at the Capitol on April 15. "We welcome participation by all public officials who have not proposed a tax increase this year," Jenny said. Congressman John Shadegg and a number of state legislators are scheduled to speak at the event, which begins at 5:30 PM on the Senate Lawn. Over 2,000 have registered online for the event.

Navy SEAL Takes on Dog Killers

Marcus Luttrell is a former U.S. Navy Seal and the lone survivor of a brutal firefight in Afghanistan in 2005.

He wrote a book about his experience in Afghanistan titled "The Lone Survivor."

When he returned from the war, a 4-year old yellow Labrador retriever was given to him to help him heal from his combat wounds and the loss of his fellow Navy Seals. Luttrell named the dog Dasy, each letter for the name of one his fellow Seal team members who died in the bloody fight in which they were isolated and far outnumbered by enemy Taliban fighters.

Luttrell doesn't sleep at night, usually keeping his guard up until sunrise and says he is, "in and out of the house all night."

On the night of April 1st, Luttrell heard a gunshot outside his rural, Walker County, Texas, home. After checking on his mother, he headed to the sound of the gunfire and found his dog Dasy dead.

Luttrell could tell that Dasy had tried to get away because there was a blood trail. The Houston Chronicle reported Luttrell as saying in a telephone interview on Wednesday, "When I saw she was dead, the only thing that popped into my head was, 'I've got to take these guys out."

In the darkness of the night, Luttrell, who had just been released from the hospital after another round of surgery, crawled under a fence, skirted a ditch and, sneaked up on four strangers in a car who apparently killed Dasy for the fun of it. Luttrell had them in the sights of his 9 mm pistil from around 25 yards, but he didn't fire, as the car pulled away. He got into his four-door pickup truck and began a wild 40 mile chase across three counties that reached speeds of over 110 mph.

Luttrell stayed on the phone with a 911 operator as he tried to catch the faster sedan. He recalled telling the 911 operator that, "you need to get somebody out here because if I catch them I'm going to kill them."

The car he was chasing was finally stopped by the Onalaska, Texas, Police Department.

When Luttrell confronted the men he said, " he was like, Which one of you guys killed my dog?"

So far, two of the punks, Michael John Edmounds II, age 21, and Alfonzo Hernandez, age 24, have been charged with the felony of cruelty to non-livestock animals. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of not having a drivers license.

Texas Ranger Steven Jeter said, "It could have been worse for both parties involved, I wouldn't advocate to the general public what he has done - to fellow them at that rate of speed. Jeter also said that "Marcus is trained to do certain things; he fell back on his training."

The American Conservative Republican would also advise not to chase any dirt bags at a high rate of speed, it's dangerous to the public. We would also ask anyone who knows Michael John Edmounds II or his boyfriend Alfonzo Hernandez, to give them a slap on the back, or the chest, or up the side of their heads, for U.S. Navy SEAl Marcus Luttrell and Dasy, and then advise them not to go around killing dogs, it could be dangerous to their health.

Welcome home Marcus Luttrell.

OBAMA Plans to Make Illegal Immigrants Legal

According to the New York Times, President Barack Obama plans to begin addressing America's immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal.

Cecillia Munoz, Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the White House, said Obama will frame the new effort as "policy reform that controls immigration and makes it an orderly system."

Over the summer Obama will convene working groups, including lawmakers from both parties and a range of immigration organizations, to begin discussing possible legislation.

During his campaign for the presidency last year, Obama pledged to Latino groups that comprehensive immigration legislation, including a plan to make legal status possible for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants, would be a priority in his first year in office. Latino voters strongly turned out for Obama during the election.

In 2007, a groundswell of opposition to legal status for illegal immigrants, strongly supported by then President George W. Bush, defeated a bipartisan immigration bill.

Roy Beck, Executive Director of NumbersUSA, an organization that favors reduced immigration, said "It just doesn't seem rational that any political leader would say, let's give millions of foreign workers permanent access to U.S. jobs when we have millions of Americans looking for jobs." Obama would face an "explosion" if he proceeded this year, Beck said.

The president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, (FAIR), said it would be "politically disastrous," for Obama to begin an immigration initiative now.

ACR POSITION:

In the opinion of the American Conservative Republican, this further shows that Obama is a slick, lawyer and politician.

Obama out pandered McCain for the Latino vote and now must satisfy that part of his base without facing the backlash from the majority of the people, which Bush and Congress faced when they suggested making illegal immigrants legal in 2007.

Obviously, Obama's political team are reading the polls and know that the vast majority of Americans are opposed to amnesty.

Instead of following a best public policy path that would bring the illegal immigration problem under control, Obama, like Bush before him, is looking for a best political solution that will satisfy everyone. There is no political solution that will make everyone happy.

Granting an amnesty by another name will not solve the problem, it will only invite more illegal immigration, we know this from experience, therefore, amnesty, by any name, should be out of the question and off the table.

For those of us that put the good of our country before any political consideration, finding the solution to the illegal immigration problem is not that complicated.

Fix what caused the problem and you solve the problem.

Two things allowed illegal immigration to spin out of control, an unsecured border and the availability of jobs in American for those in our country illegally.

Politicians from both parties heard the people load and clear, "Secure the Border," and now there is a fence part way across the border and more resources committed to making our international border secure.

Building a fence along the border will only impede illegal entry into the United States however, we will never have a 100% secure border. As long as jobs are available to illegal aliens in the U.S., they will keep coming here illegally. Build a 15 foot fence and they will find a 16 foot ladder.

The key to solving the illegal immigration problem is to end the availability of jobs for undocumented, illegal aliens in the United States. No new law is necessary, it is already illegal to knowingly hire undocumented workers. The law against hiring illegal immigrants was not being enforced, the employers knew it and so did the people south of the border, therefore, greedy employers toke advantage of the low cost labor illegal immigrants provided to increase their profits which in turn caused a massive flood of humanity to cross our southern border illegally because the border was unsecured and jobs available for them in America, regardless of their legal status.

Mr. President, to bring the problem of illegal immigration under control, complete the fence and make our border as secure as possible, use the military if necessary, people have no right to violate our sovereignty as a nation, regardless of their motive.

Make E-verify permanent and mandatory. The only reason an employer would be opposed to E-Verify is because they know they hire undocumented workers. Honest employers have nothing to fear from E-Verify.

Enforce employer sanctions against hiring undocumented workers. The law is nothing but some ink on a paper if it is not enforced. It is the duty of the president to see that all the laws are faithfully executed, not just some.

Enforcing employer sanctions does not mean stop going after illegal workers. Just going after the illegal employer makes about as much sense just going after the illegal worker. They are both breaking our laws, enforce our laws.

It's that simple, secure the border and enforce all our immigration laws.

American Conservative Republican

Judicial Nominee Compared Pregnancy to Slavery

GOP Considering Filibuster to Block Confirmation of Dawn Johnsen

From FoxNews.Com

President Obama's nominee to head the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel once compared "forced pregnancy" with slavery. Now Republicans are considering a filibuster to block her confirmation.

The controversy stems from comments made 20 years ago by Dawn Johnsen, a law professor at Indiana University, whose nomination is pending before the full Senate.

In a brief filed when she was a lawyer with the National Abortion Rights Action League, Johnsen cited a footnote that said forcing women to bear children was "disturbingly suggestive of involuntary servitude, prohibited by the 13th Amendment, in that forced pregnancy requires a woman to provide continuous physical service to the fetus in order to further the state's asserted interest."

At her confirmation hearing last month, Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., asked whether Johnsen had said abortion rights should be protected by the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery.

"It seems to me just candidly beyond the pale," said Specter, who supports abortion rights.

But Johnsen said she merely suggested an analogy in the footnote and "never believed the 13th Amendment had any role" in the abortion issue.

At least 45 House Republicans have co-signed a letter to Obama asking him to withdraw Johnsen's nomination because of her "brazen" abortion rights stance.

But supporters of Johnsen are fighting back, most notably her former employer.

NARAL said this week it is mobilizing its nationwide network of activists and supporters to pressure the Senate to confirm Johnsen and two other Obama nominees -- Judge David Hamilton and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius -- and stop what it deems attacks on nominees who support abortion rights. Filibusters won't be tolerated, the group said.

"The use of the 'F' word when referring to any of these nominees is unacceptable -- and this threat will not go unanswered," NARAL president Nancy Keenan said in a press release.

"Our activists will make it clear to their senators that derailing nominees for critical positions in the Obama administration and in the federal court simply because they have taken pro-choice positions is not an option. We will keep up the pressure until we go three for three and see these distinguished nominees confirmed by the Senate."

Ryan Patmintra, a spokesman for Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., a member of the Judiciary Committee, told FOXNews.com that Specter's vote will determine whether Johnsen gets confirmed because of his ranking status on the Judiciary Committee.

His moderate position also gives him considerable influence in the Senate where Democrats hold a 58-41 majority and need at least two Republicans to cross the aisle to block filibusters.

Specter's office did not respond to a request for an interview. But a Senate aide to the Judiciary Committee told FOXNews.com that there's no way Specter will vote for Johnsen's nomination because it could damage his prospects in what is shaping up to be a tough primary next year against conservative Pat Toomey, a former congressman and current president of the Club for Growth.

Chinese Firm Indicted for Helping Iran get Missile and Nuclear Technology

From Bloomberg News:

Chinese Firm Indicted for Misusing Banks, Aiding Iran (Update3)

By Karen Freifeld

April 7 (Bloomberg) -- A Chinese company and one of its employees were charged with misusing U.S. banks and aiding Iran’s acquisition of missile and nuclear technology, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said.

Morgenthau filed a 118-count indictment today against LIMMT Economic and Trade Co., and Li Fang Wei, a manager at the Dalian, China-based company. LIMMT is a major supplier of banned weapons to the Iranian military, Morgenthau said.

Between November 2006 and September 2008, LIMMT sent and received dozens of illegal payments through U.S. banks by using aliases and shell companies, according to a statement from Morgenthau’s office. He said that because LIMMT was prohibited from dealing with U.S. banks, transfers in its name would be banned.

By using aliases, LIMMT fooled U.S. banks into processing dozens of illegal transactions, Morgenthau said. “Our banks have high standards and sophisticated systems to stop these transactions, but this conduct was specifically designed to defeat their systems,” he said.

Some of the U.S. banks involved were Bank of New York Mellon Corp., Bank of America Corp. and JPMorgan Chase & Co., Morgenthau said.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned LIMMT in 2006 for its role in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction to Iran, Morgenthau said.

Graphite Cylinders

In the three years since LIMMT was sanctioned, it used aliases to send banned missile, nuclear and other “dual use” materials to subsidiaries of the Iranian Defense Industries Organization, Morgenthau said. The organizations Iran set up to get and produce weapons included Amin Industrial Group, Khorasan Metallurgy Industries, Shahid Sayyade Shirazi Industries and Yazd Metallurgy Industries.

Among the materials shipped from LIMMT to the Iranian Defense Industries Organization were 15,000 kilograms of an aluminum alloy used almost exclusively to make long range missiles; more than 30,000 kilograms of tungsten-copper plates, and 1,700 kilograms of graphite cylinders used for banned electrical discharge machines, according to the indictment.

In January, Morgenthau announced a $350 million settlement with Lloyds TSB Bank Plc, which allowed Iran and other sanctioned countries illegal access to the U.S. financial system. The settlement was made with both New York and federal authorities. The LIMMT probe grew out of the investigation into Lloyds and other banks, Morgenthau said.

Iranian Interests

Prosecutors in January said they found evidence of Iranian interests trying to buy tungsten and other materials used in the guidance systems of long-range missiles. Lloyds wasn’t the bank involved in those attempts, prosecutors said.

At the time, Morgenthau said nine major foreign banks besides Lloyds were under investigation for using the same technique to disguise illegal money transfers. Credit Suisse Group AG and Barclays Plc have said they’re cooperating in the probe.

U.S. banks have software filters that look for entities barred from doing business in the country, prosecutors said. Lloyds stripped out identifying features on the wires so the filters wouldn't catch them. Credit Suisse and Barclays say they are among the banks that have been probed for their handling of money subject to sanctions.

In its New York agreement, Lloyds admitted that from 2001 to 2004 it allowed Iranian banks and their customers to move more than $300 million by stripping information. The Iranian banks included Bank Melli, Bank Saderat and Sepah Bank, according to a statement by Morgenthau.

U.S. laws bar the transfer of funds from Iran and other sanctioned countries without authorization by the U.S. Treasury Department.

A Response to a Reader Advocating for the DREAM ACT

On Sunday, April 5, the American Conservative Republican (ACR) posted an item titled, "Amnesty Granting Dream Act Re-introduced."

ACR received a comment addressed to me requesting that I open my eyes and heart to the millions of children who are now adults yearning to gain citizenship. The comment by the writer, who obviously wants to remain anonymous follows, which is followed by my response.

COMMENT:

Mr. Haran,

I am a 26 year old female, who has resided in the US for the past 25 years. I teach American kids about citizenship, patriotism, and the "American Values." However, I have no path to citizenship open besides the Dream Act. I would like to buy a house and contribute to the economy, however radical conservatives such as yourself are preventing that from happening. I am also a graduate student who will pursue a Ph.D. in the future. Perhaps then I can write a dissertation about the intolerant, prejudiced people of America who refuse to open their hearts to people already residing here. Why does this country make it so difficult for people to live here legally? Why do tax-paying, ethical people, who contribute to the society have to suffer at the hands of people such as yourself? While, there are citizens who commit crimes, live off welfare, and do nothing for America and yet they are provided one form of assistance and break after another. How unfair is that? Being a citizen of the US doesn't entitle anyone to take opportunities away from those who obviously did not have them available in their own country and came here (out of necessity, not for the thrill of being here). The sad truth is that immigrants who come here work harder, value education more, and aren't half as lazy. The fear is losing your job to someone more competent? I thought competition is one of the hallmarks of capitalism.

Since America provides a free education to all, it would only make sense to then have those kids put that education to use, and become contributing members of society. Do you realize the harmful effects of not knowing if you can work, drive, own property? It leads children into hopeless measures. Mr. Haran, I request you to open your eyes and your heart to the millions of children (who are now adults) yearning to gain citizenship. It wasn't our fault that our parents brought us here! It wasn't theirs either...they were just seeking greater opportunities for their children. Is that a crime? Does that require the harsh punishment of living here illegally in the shadows for over twenty years? Please have mercy on us!

RESPONSE:

Dear Anonymous;

You say that you are 26 years old and have lived in the United States for 25 of those years. Obviously, you were an infant when you were brought illegally into the country and this is the only country you really know, therefore, I assume you have bonded somewhat with America. If I were to support a "Dream Act," or lets call it what it really is, an amnesty, it would certainly include people like you, who were obviously too young to be guilty of the crime of violating American sovereignty by entering the United States illegally.

In most respects, you are just like any other American, this is the only country you know and it's natural to love the land we are raised in and you were raised in America. There is one small but important difference however, your parents, whatever their motive, broke our law and you are in this country therefore illegally and now you're an adult and want to take your place in the society you know, America. Someone would have to be the intolerant, prejudiced person you plan to write your dissertation about not to empathize with your position. The important difference is that which is the most valuable to an American, our citizenship.

You ask why tax-paying, ethical people have to suffer at the hands of people such as myself? The answer is they are not suffering at the hands of people like me. They are suffering because they wanted a better life for themselves and their children and so, thou they may be honest and law abiding people, they broke our law and entered the U.S. illegally, They may have crossed a river or risked their lives crossing a desert or rode in the back of a cargo truck, but they were determined to get here because there were jobs for them. To be very honest with you, if I were born on the other side of the border, knowing there were better paying jobs available on the American side, I may have crossed over too. The United States is a sovereign nation however and not an open territory, if we just let whoever wanted to, to enter the country without our permission or any health and criminal check, we would be swamped by all the poor of the world and become a just as poor as the countries they migrated from. A nation's immigration laws must protect the host nation.

You point out that it wasn't your fault that your parents brought you here, which is true, but to say it wasn't your parents fault is only half true, they violated our rights as a nation, those who provided illegal employment for them are also guilty however, and for every poor border crosser that died in the desert, those greedy employers must take some responsibility for enticing them to risk their lives with illegal employment.

Make no mistake about this, the greedy employers that profit from the cheap labor that illegal immigrants provide, at a wages lower then legal residents, because the federal government failed to enforce the law against illegally hiring undocumented workers, are the real cause of the massive illegal immigration problem facing America today. They are the real villains, not those of us demanding that our government enforce our laws. These employers are motivated by the same thing that motivated the southern slave holding plantation owners in the Nineteenth Century, greed. Greed for the profit that cheap labor provided. What labor could be cheaper then slavery? Remember how far those Nineteenth Century profiteers of others labor were willing to press the issue. They divided the nation in civil war and sent their own sons to fight and die for the sake of profiting from cheap slave labor.

Today, those profiting from cheap illegal immigrant labor, are also willing to do whatever it takes to keep profiting from exploiting immigrant labor. Here in Arizona they have done everything in their power to obstruct enforcement of our employer sanctions laws.

Follow the cause and effect of the illegal immigration situation. The government doesn't enforce employer sanctions against hiring undocumented workers which causes more and more employers to seek out undocumented workers so that they too can profit from the low cost labor they provide, which in turn caused more and more people to enter the country illegally.

Why are people like yourself living in the shadows of the only country you know, because the greedy employers have been given de facto amnesty for illegally hiring illegal aliens. If we continue to give the employers of illegal immigrants amnesty and give the millions of children of illegal immigrants amnesty, this country will be swamped with the worlds poor.

If the children of illegal aliens who were raised in America want an amnesty they should stop assuming those of us demanding enforcement are a bunch of dumb, redneck, racist and join with us and end the amnesty for employers of illegal immigrants by demanding enforcement of employer sanctions and a secure border.

Only when the illegal immigration problem is under control and our immigration laws enforced, especially employer sanctions, can we afford to grant an amnesty to the children of illegal aliens, and not before.

Instead of marching in American streets demanding amnesty, stop given aid and comfort to those causing the problem and demand enforcement of our employer sanctions laws.

Shadegg to Attend Tea Party

Just got information from "Friends of Thayer Verschoor," that Congressman John Shadegg will participate in the Phoenix Tea Party at the Arizona State Capitol on Wednesday, April 15th, from 5:30 to 7:pm.

In a April 2 news release Shadegg had this to say about the federal budget, “Follow the path set forth in this budget and the children of the ‘Greatest Generation’ may be known by their own children as the ‘Reckless Generation’ – the generation that squandered the wealth of the greatest and most prosperous country on Earth.”

Town Hall set for April 16

The Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC) will be conducting a Town-hall to discuss the state budget at 5:45 PM, April 16 in the Scottsdale Civic Center Library Auditorium, 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd, Scottsdale.

Confirmed speakers for the event are: Sen. Russell Pearce, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee; Rep. John Kavanaugh, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee; President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Senator Thayer Verschoor; and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Gray.

Topics to be discussed include; the impact of illegal immigration, alternative solutions to raising taxes and, why the Democratic party plan will hurt taxpayers.

MCRC Executive Director Tom Husband said, "It is very important that we conduct town-halls throughout the county to better inform voters and taxpayers as to the status of the state budget. We need to talk directly with our legislators. We are facing difficult economic times, as well as increasing alarm at what is transpiring in Washington."

Husband continued by saying that, "Republicans need to come to these town-halls and express their opinions to elected officials. Legislators are subjected to the pleas of special interest groups and paid lobbyist on a constant basis, but the taxpayers, who carry the burden of financing government, must also be heard. Come out and remind elected officials that they were elected to work for us and we intent to hold them accountable."

At a recent meeting of concerned citizens in Peoria, it was standing room only. "People are very concerned - not only about their personal budget but with what elected officials are doing with city, county, state, and national funds," Husband said.

Sandy Doty, is a Member-at-Large of the MCRC and is the person in-charge of organizing the event. She echoed Husbands thoughts, "People must get involved. We have scheduled some of our best legislators in a facility to seat a large group. If you really want to know what is going on down at the capitol you need to talk directly to your legislators. Unfortunately, the media is not giving us the whole story. We are hoping to get the other side of some of the budget problems out to the public," Doty said.

A $5 donation will be taken at the door and the Town Hall is open to the public. For information please contact Sandy Doty at 480-883-1097.
