Time for McCain to Retire and go Fishing

Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee for president in 2008 and four term senator from Arizona, claims that he was "misled" into supporting the massive bailout of the financial system known as Troubled Asset Relief Program, (TARP).

McCain, who is being challenged for the 2010 GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate by Jim Deakin and J.D. Hayworth, said that he was misled by then Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke that the $700 Billion bailout would focus on what was seen as the cause of the financial crisis, the housing meltdown.

At a meeting with The Republic's Editorial Board, McCain said "obviously, that didn't happen,"

McCain claims that President George W. Bush called him off the campaign trail, saying a worldwide economic catastrophe was imminent and that he needed his help. On Sept 24, 2008, McCain temporarily suspended his campaign for president to confront the economic crisis.

Henry Paulson in his book, "On the Brink," in regard to McCain's response to the crisis claims that, "when it came right down to it, McCain had little to say in the forum he himself had called." Paulson called McCain's decision to return to Washington without a plan, "impulsive and risky," even, "dangerous."

I'm no fan of John McCain but I would expect something more from a former Naval officer then passing the buck by claiming that he was, "misled." Spending $700 billion of the people's money is no small decision and something that a four term U.S. Senator and candidate for president should not take lightly or allow himself to be, "misled."

McCain is known for moving from one side of an issue to another, as the political situation requires. Pander to the right to win conservative support, pander to the left to get liberal support. It has been said that the most dangerous place to be in Washington D.C. is between John McCain and a TV camera. This is a decision McCain spun into an image of the hero rushing to rescue the world's economy, to now claim that he was misled is to say the least, very disturbing. I would rather have a senator who would take responsibility for his decisions and either defend his actions or admit that he made a mistake.

Public office should be about doing the best of your ability to do what is in the people's best interest, not doing whatever it takes to get elected. Leadership is putting the greater good before your own self interest. Character is taking responsibility for your own actions.

If John McCain is going to pass the buck on one of the most important decisions he made in public office, then he has not the character nor the leadership to serve in public office and it is time for him to retire and go fishing.

Hayworth Considering Run Against McCain

According to a report in the Washington Post by Chris Cillizza, "former representative J.D. Hayworth is weighing a candidacy against Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) in 2010, according to sources familiar with his thinking. Hayworth, a former sportscaster who spent more than a decade in Congress before he was defeated in 2006 by Rep. Harry Mitchell (D), is a popular figure among grassroots conservatives -- a status McCain has never courted or achieved. McCain already faces a primary challenge from Chris Simcox, a founder of the Minutemen -- a leading anti-immigration group. While there is considerable resentment from some grassroots conservatives toward McCain, it's not clear that he is vulnerable to a primary challenge. McCain ended June with $4.65 million in the bank."

Turns out John McCain had no problem calling ACORN members his friends during his ill-fated illegal alien shamnesty crusade.

The Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act was introduced in the Senate by Senators Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and John McCain (R-AZ) and in the House by Representatives Jim Kolbe (R-AZ), Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Luis Gutierrez (D-IL). It addresses border security and illegal immigration while bringing the 11 million undocumented immigrants out from the shadows and onto a path to legal permanent status; setting up legal channels and realistic caps for workers and family members to enter in the future; providing for tough enforcement; and enabling more immigrants to learn English and prepare for citizenship.

ACORN is now gleefully reminding McCain of his common cause with the group to paint itself as bipartisan — while at the same time issuing the usual strident, anti-conservative statements that ought to be immediate grounds for revoking its non-profit tax status.

“I’ll rely on people to judge me by the company that I keep,” McCain said in February.

Pullen Says Obama Presidency; Broken Promises, Rampant Spending, Chicago-style Politics

Broken promises, rampant government spending, and Chicago-style politics have marred the first 200 days of the Obama Presidency according to Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen. After examining the achievements of President Obama’s first six months in office, Chairman Pullen has concluded that the soaring rhetoric didn't produce the results Americans so sorely need during this time of economic turmoil.

As unemployment continues to rise and the President’s approval ratings decline, many are taking inventory of the progress made by the Obama Administration and have been disappointed with results. Nationwide polling from respected organizations like the Wall Street Journal, Gallup and CNN have shown President Obama’s polling numbers deteriorate the more Americans learn about him and his political agenda.

“President Obama campaigned on a platform of hope for a better tomorrow,” said Chairman Pullen. “If government spending was the answer to the problems Americans are experiencing right now he certainly has made his best effort to solve the crisis. But we know that burdening future generations with debt is as wrong as it is ineffective in dealing with the today’s economy. But the President seems to think otherwise.”

“During the Democrat President’s first 200 days, he has seemingly made it his mission to spend us into oblivion and Americans are beginning to see the President for what he is. Another big-government, big-spending liberal who thinks that all of our problems can be solved with government intervention,” the Chairman said.

“The President and his administration even found time to bully the state of Arizona and try to intimidate our Senators Kyl and McCain by threatening to withhold stimulus dollars,” the Chairman continued. “That type politics may work for Chicago community organizers, but it is offensive from the President of the United States.”

“I do have to say that President Obama was successful in one thing, motivating our grassroots and improving Republican fundraising,” said Pullen. “People are rightfully concerned with the spending spree that our Democrat President is leading us on. Many feel that under the President’s leadership our country is gotten seriously off track and they need to do something about it. Whether that be taking part in grassroots activism or contributing to our efforts to fight a plan to institute a government-run healthcare system.”

“So far Democrats have shown that they are part of the problem not the solution. The Republican Party will capitalize on that reality and show that the Party of ideas is alive and well in Arizona, and around the country,” the Chairman concluded.

JEFF VATH CLAIMS GHOST WROTE POST, NOT HIM

Politico Mafioso bloger Jeff Vath, who on Wednesday, May 20, published a long rant attacking Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen, accusing him of creative accounting and insinuating racism, now claims he didn't write the post, Ghost did - unlike Vath, we can't make this stuff up.


Vath, a die-hard McCain supporter and operative, who is notorious for throwing dirt and running vicious smear campaigns against conservative Republicans, which are rarely supported by facts, found himself mentioned in the Capitol Times' Yellow Sheet, "Jeff Vath, an LD-6 Republican, put out a hit on Pullen today on Political Mafioso, accusing him of creative accounting with the state party's books to include illegal "earmarking and spending" to fund a TV ad."

On Friday, Vath responded to the Capitol Times' Yellow Sheet report with a post titled, "Hey Phil....Reading is Fundamental!!!" The title was followed by an attack on Phil Risk, "We are going to send the 'READING IS FUNDAMENTAL' Learn to Read Program to award winning AZ Capitol Times reporter PHIL RISKE since he seems to be have a 'reading comprehension' problem."

Vath then claims that he didn't write the post that was published in his blog, the Ghost wrote it.

Vath, or whomever is writing his blog said,
"The Ghost" is one of the 'premiere' Investigative Bloggers in Arizona. Everything posted in the article is backed up with links. I stand with "The Ghost" as I do all the Politico Mafioso Team! After nearly 4 years & 4,023 posts (including this one), our readers know I am NOT a writer. I started this Blog to protect my friends from the 'Evil Ones' that infest the local Republican Party. I enjoy finding funny photos to post rather than writing articles."

The words "Evil Ones," Vath referred to were hyper-linked to the "Gila Courier" and "Seeing Red Arizona," two well respected political blogs. Mr. Vath may enjoy posting funny photo's rather then writing articles, his "Ghost" however, seems to take great delight in destroying the good name of conservative Republicans, especially those who are not hard core McCain supporters or who support employer sanctions.

The American Conservative Republican, (ACR), would like to contact Mr. or Ms. Ghost for a comment, but his/her number seems to be unlisted.

Vath or Ghost or whoever wrote the post published in his blog, then claimed that he didn't post some funny photo's of the Arizona Republican Party Executive Director, Brett Mecum, having fun at a Halloween party, he just linked to them. All hair-splitting aside, the photo's were merely an oblique attempt to further smear the Arizona GOP chairman by attacking the party executive director.

A statement by Vath was then directed at the state party chairman, "If Mr. Pullen doesn't like what was posted, we will give him the opportunity to answer in his own words, ------- NO Editing or DELETING like some of the other blogs." The words NO and DELETING were hyper-linked to the Sonoran Alliance and Seeing Red blogs.

I would advise our party chairman not to reply to Vath's invitation, he asked me to write an endorsement once of Arizona House candidate Carl Seel during the primary. Vath didn't edit or delete what I wrote, he just posted it under a photo taken of me having some fun at a New Year's Eve party and under the title, "Far Right Wacko Racist McCain Hater Bob Haran Endorsed Con-Man Carl Seel." For the record, I'm not a racist or McCain hater, however, far right and wacko are open to interpretation.

After attacking; The Arizona Capitol Times, Phil Riske, The Gila Courier, Seeing Red Arizona, Randy Pullen, Brett Mecum, the Arizona Republican Party and, the Sonoran Alliance, Vath again attempts to smear me with the following,

The misspelling of the word "chastising" above is by Vath and his "Politico Mafioso" and not the ACR and the words "profiled before" are hyper-linked to a photo of Dustin Hoffman from the movie, "Rain Man," under the caption, "this is Bob Haran," the other photo is the aforementioned one taken of me during a New Years Eve party.

The scathing article "chastizing" Congressman John Shadegg that Vath mentioned can be easily accessed by going to the ACR archive for April 17, 2009, I stand by the accuracy of the article, it was written by me and not a "ghost writer."

It is true that Congressmen Shadegg endorsed me for Republican Second Vice Chairman of Legislative District 6, an endorsement however does not exempt any public official from criticism or restrain me from exercising my First Amendment Rights under the United States Constitution. Mr. Vath may disagree, but I believe my congressmen works for me and not the other way around.

Vath ends his post by giving me an award, (which I have displayed at the top of this page), "The First Annual Moran Award," for being the most popular student in the sixth grade.... for five straight years!

I'm deeply honored with receiving the award from "Politico Mafioso," I don't appreciate Vath "chastizing" me however for telling the truth on him and his ghost writer.

For the record, The American Conservative Republican believes in God and country, but we don't believe in Ghost.

McCain Hit Man Targets Pullen

Jeff Vath (the one in the picture with breasts), AKA "Fat Boy", has viciously attacked Arizona Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen in his blog, Political Mafioso.
In a multi-colored, garish post, the McCain sycophant, who has obviously overindulged in the McCain Kool-Aid, goes on a long rant against the Arizona GOP chairman with multi, unfounded accusations and lies.

Vath is a Republican Precinct Committeemen and die hard John McCain worshipper who counts among his friends two time loser for state chairman, Lisa James, and her husband, Wake Up Arizona Coalition member and employer sanctions opponent, Gordon James.

The Wake Up Arizona Coalition is a group that has taken the extreme vow to defeat any legislator or candidate who supports sanctions against employers who illegally hire undocumented workers. Randy Pullen is one of those who supports enforcement of our immigration laws, including employer sanctions.

He also counts among his Republican friends on Facebook, Arizona Corporation Commissioner and former campaign aid and staff member to Democrat Governor Janet Napolitano, Kris Mayes. In addition, the notorious Nathan Spruol, who was the director of a vicious character assassination campaign against Arizona Senator Russell Pearce, the author of Arizona's Employer Sanctions Law is a friend of Vath.

Also listed as a friend of Vath are professional illegal immigrant advocate and hater of Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Daniel Ortega.

Vath also lists among his friends, Democratic-Socialist and self proclaimed bi-sexual, Arizona Representative Kyrstin Sinema, along with Democrats Terry Goddard and Paul Newman, (not the actor - the Arizona politician).

Obviously Jeff Vath is far from being a loyal Republican, in fact, becoming a RINO would be a step up for him.

I don't know where Vath gets his information, the word attribution seems to have no meaning to the overindulgent author of the McCain followers', Political Mafioso.

I don't know why, maybe it's because he's such a blind follower of McCain, but Vath has extreme hostility toward anyone who ever dared to disagree with Arizona's senior senator. It seems as thou Vath would prefer that everyone in the GOP act like sheep and blindly fellow, as he does.

Thankfully, Arizona Republicans are not followers and don't like Kola-Aid, they twice went against McCain and certain members of the GOP congressional delegation and defeated, Ms. James, and elected Randy Pullen as their state chairman.

Unfortunately for the Arizona Republican party, some members of the delegation are like children and when they don't get their way they throw a tantrum. McCain, and therefore his followers, didn't want Pullen and they didn't care what the grassroots of the party wanted, they wanted Pullen out and James in. They didn't get who they wanted as chairman and therefore went to war against the Arizona Republican Party.

This disrespect for the will of the majority of the Republican grassroots in Arizona by McCain and his gang has caused a great deal of friction between the Arizona Republican congressional delegation, with the exception of Trent Franks, and the Arizona Republican Party.

Congressman John Shadegg recently went so far as to first advise people not to get involved with the party because of what he described as poor leadership at the state and county level and then reversed himself and asked that people get involved to turn out the current leadership.

The disagreement between the grassroots, who Pullen represents, and the delegation is centered on the illegal immigration issue. A disconnect has developed between the grassroots of the party and those who have been in Washington too long. The grassroots of the party, and the majority of the people of Arizona, demanded that illegal immigration be controlled and the enforcement of all our immigration laws. Our Washington politicians came back and told us the solution to illegal immigration was a guest worker program and making those here illegally, legally here, but don't call it an amnesty, call it a path to citizenship.

They obviously were more concerned with providing cheap labor for their big dollar campaign contributors and pandering to the growing Hispanic vote, than defending American sovereignty. Our cheap, pandering, Washington politicians put party before country and politics before principle and instead of listening to the people, they told us that we were all racist for opposing illegal immigration.

Interestingly, McCain, members of the Arizona delegation, and many of the elected officials who supported Lisa James for state chairman had also received campaign contributions from members of the anti - employer sanctions group, the Wake Up Arizona Coalition.

Near the end of Vath's long rant against Pullen he writes, "The people of Arizona have lived through this long enough - now Pullen is attempting to bring his brand of the Wild West to D.C. and the RNC. The guy is a liability to the future of the Republican Party."

Randy Pullen is not a liability to the party, he represents the grassroots of the party, he represents the heart and soul of the GOP.

Pullen has worked for party unity from the day he was first elected by the party as their chairman. Pullen loyally supported John McCain, the GOP nominee for president, often being criticized by some in the conservative wing for doing so. In fact, since Pullen became state chairman, I can't remember him ever saying anything negative about McCain.

No, Pullen is not a liability to the future of the Republican Party, U.S. Senators who miss more then half of the votes in the senate may be a liability, overly ambitious Washington politicians who forget that they work for us and not the other way around may be a liability, Republican Members of Congress who attack the party leadership may be a liability, and overstuffed bloggers who viciously attack all who they disagree with may be a liability to the future of the Republican Party, but those that work for unity and represent the Republican grassroots will never be a liability to the future of our party.

PS, to those who might object to my reference to Mr. Vath's obesity, I don't care, he has no problem viciously ridiculing others, he does it all the time, he has done it to me, let him have a taste of his own medicine. Jeff Vath is a coward and undeserving of any respect.

Simcox to run against McCain

According to Politico , Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC) president, Chris Simcox plans to run against John McCain in the 2010 GOP primary for the senate.

The MCDC is not to be confused with Jim Gilchrist's Minuteman Project, which is a separate organization also working on the issue of border security and illegal immigration control.

Politico reports that Simcox will resign from the MCDC and release the following statement,

"John McCain has failed miserably in his duty to secure this nation's borders and protect the people of Arizona from escalating violence and lawlessness. He has fought real efforts over the years at every turn , opting to hold our nation's border security hostage to his amnesty schemes. Coupled with his votes for reckless bailout spending and big government solutions to our nation's problems, John McCain is out of touch with everyday Arizonans. Enough is enough."

In April 2005, Simcox teamed up with Gilchrist to organize the Minuteman Project, which brought nationwide attention to the southern border. At that time, Janet Napolitano, then the governor of Arizona and the mainstream media, labeled the Minuteman members as being vigilantes, however, there has never been a case of a member of The Minuteman Project physically harming anyone. The members of the Minuteman Project, who were all carefully screened, merely observed and reported illegal entry into the United States, they do not enforce the law but acted as a sort of neighborhood watch on the border.

Jim Deakin also plans to run against McCain for the 2010 Republican nomination for the senate.

SHADEGG DECLARES WAR ON ARIZONA GOP

It seems that there will be an opening for a new Member of Congress from Arizona's Third Congressional District, currently represented by John Shadegg.

Based on recent remarks by Shadegg against the Arizona Republican Party and the Maricopa County Republican Committee and their respective chairmen, rumors of his retirement must be true.

According to a report in the GOPUSA NEWS, which has been confirmed, John Shadegg, first elected to Congress as a Republican in 1994, has declared war on the Arizona Republican Party and the choice Republican State Committeemen made to elect Randy Pullen as their state chairman and the Maricopa County Republican Committee because they elected Rob Haney as their chairman.

On Monday, April 13, Shadegg was the quest speaker at a meeting of the Arizona Chapter of the Republican Jewish Coalition in Scottsdale, AZ.

According to GOPUSA NEWS, Shadegg talked about a wide range of issues that included encouraging other members of Congress not to interact with CAIR (the Council on American Islamic Relations) about which he distributed literature, the lack of commitment by many Republicans in Congress to freedom and free market principles, and the Republican Party in general.

Shadegg said that once Republicans took control of Congress in 1995, many were corrupted by their power as the majority. This led to excess government spending, increased use of earmarks, and more corruption. Shadegg further said that the real election calling for change was in 2006, when the Democrats were elected to the majority.

After distancing himself from the Republicans in Congress, Shadegg took questions from the audience.

The GOPUSA News article said that in response to a question about getting involved in political organizations, Rep. Shadegg encouraged conservatives to get involved in grassroots organizations such as the Republican Jewish Coalition, contact their elected officials, and talk to people about issues in order to present a conservative view.

Shadegg then said, again, according to GOPUSA, that getting involved in the Arizona Republican Party or the Maricopa County Republican Committee was a bad idea because they were being poorly led and were at the lowest level since Evan Mecham was governor. He also said the leaders of the Arizona state party and the Maricopa Committee used the illegal immigration issue to create conflicts in the Republican Party.

Obviously Shadegg does not consider attacking his fellow Republicans in Congress and the Arizona Republican Party and the state and county Republican Chairman as a cause of conflict within the Republican Party.

After saying that the Republican Party leaders should focus on having a big tent, he said he is definitely not supportive of people like Russell Pearce who wants to arrest and deport illegal immigrants on a huge scale.

In response to another question Shadegg back-peddled from his recommendation, not to get involved with the Arizona Republican Party and apologized for saying that and then said, people should get involved in the GOP to remove the elected state and county chairman.

It would appear that after 15 years in Washington, Shadegg no longer believes that the grassroots of the Republican party are competent enough to elect their own state and county chairman or to take a position on illegal immigration. Perhaps he wants us to just drink the Shadegg brand of Kool Aid and let McCain and the other Republican members of the Arizona Congressional Delegation appoint our officers and tell us what position to take on the issues. It seems that Shadegg believes a political party should be run like a corporation, with control coming from the top down instead of from the grassroots up.

If Congressmen John Shadegg dislikes the selection of Randy Pullen by the grassroots of the Arizona Republican Party as their state chairman and, the election of Rob Haney has their county chairman, perhaps Shadegg should do the honorable thing and leave the party he no longer supports.

Unfortunately for Shadegg, there are only two major political parties in America, the Democratic and Republican parties, and both are governed from the bottom up. Two parties controlled from the top down were the Fascist and the Communist, and both were failures, therefore, Shadegg can do and say what he wants, but we the Republican precinct and state committeemen, who represent the Republican voters, are the Republican Party and not the Republicans, INC.

Therefore, the Republicans of CD 3, will need a good conservative Republican candidate who has enough respect for the grassroots of the GOP to allow them to select their own leaders and to make their own decisions on the issues to represent them as the Republican candidate for Congress, to be selected by the people of CD 3 in 2010.

OBAMA Plans to Make Illegal Immigrants Legal

According to the New York Times, President Barack Obama plans to begin addressing America's immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal.

Cecillia Munoz, Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the White House, said Obama will frame the new effort as "policy reform that controls immigration and makes it an orderly system."

Over the summer Obama will convene working groups, including lawmakers from both parties and a range of immigration organizations, to begin discussing possible legislation.

During his campaign for the presidency last year, Obama pledged to Latino groups that comprehensive immigration legislation, including a plan to make legal status possible for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants, would be a priority in his first year in office. Latino voters strongly turned out for Obama during the election.

In 2007, a groundswell of opposition to legal status for illegal immigrants, strongly supported by then President George W. Bush, defeated a bipartisan immigration bill.

Roy Beck, Executive Director of NumbersUSA, an organization that favors reduced immigration, said "It just doesn't seem rational that any political leader would say, let's give millions of foreign workers permanent access to U.S. jobs when we have millions of Americans looking for jobs." Obama would face an "explosion" if he proceeded this year, Beck said.

The president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, (FAIR), said it would be "politically disastrous," for Obama to begin an immigration initiative now.

In the opinion of the American Conservative Republican, this further shows that Obama is a slick, lawyer and politician.

Obama out pandered McCain for the Latino vote and now must satisfy that part of his base without facing the backlash from the majority of the people, which Bush and Congress faced when they suggested making illegal immigrants legal in 2007.

Obviously, Obama's political team are reading the polls and know that the vast majority of Americans are opposed to amnesty.

Instead of following a best public policy path that would bring the illegal immigration problem under control, Obama, like Bush before him, is looking for a best political solution that will satisfy everyone. There is no political solution that will make everyone happy.

Granting an amnesty by another name will not solve the problem, it will only invite more illegal immigration, we know this from experience, therefore, amnesty, by any name, should be out of the question and off the table.

For those of us that put the good of our country before any political consideration, finding the solution to the illegal immigration problem is not that complicated.

Fix what caused the problem and you solve the problem.

Two things allowed illegal immigration to spin out of control, an unsecured border and the availability of jobs in American for those in our country illegally.

Politicians from both parties heard the people load and clear, "Secure the Border," and now there is a fence part way across the border and more resources committed to making our international border secure.

Building a fence along the border will only impede illegal entry into the United States however, we will never have a 100% secure border. As long as jobs are available to illegal aliens in the U.S., they will keep coming here illegally. Build a 15 foot fence and they will find a 16 foot ladder.

The key to solving the illegal immigration problem is to end the availability of jobs for undocumented, illegal aliens in the United States. No new law is necessary, it is already illegal to knowingly hire undocumented workers. The law against hiring illegal immigrants was not being enforced, the employers knew it and so did the people south of the border, therefore, greedy employers toke advantage of the low cost labor illegal immigrants provided to increase their profits which in turn caused a massive flood of humanity to cross our southern border illegally because the border was unsecured and jobs available for them in America, regardless of their legal status.

Mr. President, to bring the problem of illegal immigration under control, complete the fence and make our border as secure as possible, use the military if necessary, people have no right to violate our sovereignty as a nation, regardless of their motive.

Make E-verify permanent and mandatory. The only reason an employer would be opposed to E-Verify is because they know they hire undocumented workers. Honest employers have nothing to fear from E-Verify.

Enforce employer sanctions against hiring undocumented workers. The law is nothing but some ink on a paper if it is not enforced. It is the duty of the president to see that all the laws are faithfully executed, not just some.

Enforcing employer sanctions does not mean stop going after illegal workers. Just going after the illegal employer makes about as much sense just going after the illegal worker. They are both breaking our laws, enforce our laws.

It's that simple, secure the border and enforce all our immigration laws.

Napolitano to enforce Employer Sanctions

The Los Angeles Times has reported that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will soon direct that the department's agents emphasize targeting employers that hire illegal workers for arrest and prosecution.

During his campaign for the presidency, Barack Obama claimed that past enforcement efforts failed because they focused on the illegal immigrant rather then the employers that hired them.

There are an estimated 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in the United States, no one really knows how many. Even hard core immigration control and enforcement advocates admit that millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. is unacceptable, however, rounding up that many people and deporting them is not practical.

Those of us that have been advocating immigration control and enforcement have long realized that the primary cause of massive illegal immigration has been an unsecured border with Mexico and the availability of jobs for undocumented workers in the United States.

Before the Minuteman Project of April 2005, security at our southern border was a bad joke. The patriotic members of the Minuteman Project and Members of Congress, like Tom Tancredo of Colorado, helped spotlight our lack of security at the border. The Minuteman themselves, who merely observe and report infiltration of illegal aliens into the United States, proved that the border can be better secured, more importantly however, by the use of gesture politics, they got the Congress and the federal government to finally get serious about securing the border.

No amount of security at the border can keep people, trying to improve their lives, from illegally entering the country if jobs are available for them in the U.S., however. As a member of the original Minuteman Project, before everyone claimed to be a Minuteman, I have to admit that if I were born on the other side of the border, I too would be trying to get into the United States if jobs are available. Build a 50 foot wall and I'll find a 51 foot ladder.

Some Washington politicians with higher ambitions, such as John McCain, were more concerned with pandering to the growing Hispanic population for votes and also accommodating the desire for cheap labor by business interests, who make large campaign contributions, then combating the crisis of massive illegal immigration.

Most politicians responded to the demand by the American people for increased border security, Others however, like John McCain, claimed that the solution to illegal immigration was to make illegal immigrants, legal immigrants, which made about as much sense as removing any speed limit to reduce speeding violations. McCain insisted that making illegal immigrants, legal immigrants was not an amnesty however.

McCain tried to justify illegal immigration by claiming that those in the country illegally were merely doing the jobs Americans wont do, sidestepping the fact that they were here illegally and working for substandard wages and taking jobs from American workers.

The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which granted an amnesty to 2.8 million illegal aliens who met certain criteria, put employer sanctions into place for hiring undocumented workers. The 1986 amnesty was followed by other amnesties but the sanctions against employers were not enforced, therefore, employers, with a wink and a nod, continued to illegally hire undocumented workers and the invasion of illegal aliens continued and increased in anticipation of the next amnesty.

Clearly, the lack of enforcement of employer sanctions has been the primary cause of massive illegal immigration into the United States.

The American Conservative Republican supports employer sanctions and applauds former Arizona Governor Napolitano and the Obama administration for their intent to emphasize arrest and prosecution of the greedy employers who exploit and profit from cheap illegal immigrant labor. It is still important to continue to deport those employees in the U.S. illegally, however, to reduce the supply of cheap labor for the greedy employers profiting from illegal immigration.

McCAIN, Let Mexican Trucks Roll on U.S. Roads

On Friday we reported that Congressman Jeff Flake of Arizona's Sixth Congressional District introduced legislation to fund the U.S./ Mexico Border Land Transportation Program that allows Mexican trucks in the U.S., "JEFF FLAKE WANTS MEXICAN TRUCKS IN U.S.," in order to bring the U.S. into compliance with the North American Free Trade Agreement, (NAFTA).

Flake's bill, H.R. 1611, would repeal language included in the FY 09 omnibus spending bill that prohibits funding for the program to allow Mexican trucks to travel throughout the United States.

Under NAFTA, trucks from Canada, Mexico and the United States were to have free access throughout the three nations by 1999, the U.S. however, restricted Mexican trucks to a 20-mile commercial zone at the border. In 2001, a NAFTA arbitration panel ruled that the U.S. was in violation of NAFTA.

U.S. Senator John McCain, in response to Mexico's reaction to raise tariffs on American imports because of the U.S. restrictions on unsafe Mexican truckers on U.S. highways issued the following statement from his Washington office.

MEXICAN GOVERNMENT TO RAISE TARIFFS ON AMERICAN PRODUCTS

March 16, 2009

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today released the following statement in response to the announcement made by the Mexican government to raise tariffs on American products:

"I deeply regret the action taken by the Mexican government and the harm it may cause to American businesses," said Senator John McCain. "Unfortunately, this is a predictable reaction by the Mexican government to a policy that now puts the United States in clear violation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and was inappropriately inserted into the Omnibus appropriations bill. We must take steps to prevent escalation of further protectionist measures – actions that only serve to harm American business during these tough economic times when these businesses need a worldwide marketplace to prosper. This is another reason why the President should have vetoed the Omnibus spending bill."


The American Conservative Republican asks that if you see Mexican trucks on our highways, you should thank Congressman Jeff Flake and Senator John McCain for taking those jobs away from American truckers and making our highways more dangerous to travel on.

Mexican Implosion - Secure the Border - NOW

Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee Chairman, Joe Lieberman, will be conducting two hearings to examine the national and homeland security consequences of the escalating violence along the Mexican border.

The first hearing will be held in Washington, D.C., on March 25 and a second hearing will be held in Arizona sometime in April.

According to a news release sent out by his office, Senator Lieberman said: "The southern border has always been on our radar screen as an entry point for narcotics and human smugglers, and other who might threaten our homeland security, but the recent escalation of violence along the southern border demands our immediate attention. To deal with the spillover of violence into U.S. territory, we must assess border security programs and plans in place and we must review the readiness of federal, state, and local law enforcement. Ideally, we can eliminate the threats and provide the Mexican government with the support it needs to win this war against the drug cartels and other dangerous actors who threaten our national security."

The news release from Senator Lieberman also reported that Arizona Senator John McCain said: "With Phoenix ranking second only to Mexico City for the largest number of kidnappings for any city in the world, it is appropriate that the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs hold this hearing in Arizona. The violence, crime and drug trafficking in Mexico due to the raging wars among the drug cartels is increasingly coming across the border and threatening the safety of Arizonans and all Americans. I look forward to hosting this hearing in Arizona and working closely with my colleagues, the new administration, and Mexican President Calderon to put an end to the violence caused by the Mexican drug cartels and restoring law and order."

Mexico is in a war with drug cartels and according to Barry McCaffrey, retired U.S. Army general and national drug czar during the Clinton administration, "thousands have been murdered," and "squad size units of Mexican police and soldiers have been abducted, tortured and beheaded." During an interview with NPR news, McCaffrey described the Mexican municipal police as, "quasi criminal organizations." NPR also reported that U.S. Special Forces are training Mexican forces in their war with the drug cartels.

Reuters has reported that Mexico is sending thousands more troops and federal police to it's most violent city, Ciudad Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Texas. where law and order is on the brink of collapse. This month alone, drug hit men have killed 250 people in Juarez, Reuters reported.

In Arizona, the Mexican government has lodged a protest with the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors regarding the treatment of Mexican citizens by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. In a letter sent to the Board of Supervisors by the Consulate General of Mexico in Phoenix, the Mexican government reminds the Board of Supervisors that the U.S. is an active member of the United Nations, which adopted the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners. Has Mexico ever taken a look at it's own treatment of prisoners ?
Mexico is rapidly drifting toward implosion and the Chairman of the Senate Committee concerned with homeland security decides to hold a hearing on what to do at the end of March and Arizona's own senator, John McCain, will host a hearing in Arizona sometime in April.

What to do.

Sending money and arms to Mexico would be foolish, it is almost sure to land in the wrong hands. Mexico is a true culture of corruption, bribery of police and government officials are a common practice, police chiefs and officials that don't cooperate with the drug cartels are asasinated. What can the United States do to help Mexico and protect America ? Put the U.S. military on the border and really secure our border. Make the smuggling of drugs into the United States close to impossible, this would dry up the supply on the American side and reduce demand which would also reduce drug cartel profits. Allowing local U.S. law enforcement to take illegal aliens into custody would also take a big bit out of drug trafficking.

Illegal drugs smuggled across the Mexican border has been destroying American lives for decades and our border should have been secured decades ago. The government should use the full resources of the United States to protect the American people. There is no longer any excuse not to put the military on the border.
