Yesterday, Arizona Representative Jerry Weiers, (R-LD 12), honored Arizona veterans by holding a flag raising dedication ceremony at the State Capitol. The former flag pole at the capitol needed to be replaced because of damage caused by years of exposure to the weather and was slightly bent.
The former single flag pole has been replaced by three new separate flag poles; one for our national flag, one for our state flag and, another for the POW/MIA flag in honor of all American veterans from all wars who were never accounted for. During the ceremony two Arizona Army National Guard helicopters conducted a flyby which was followed by a 21 gun salute.
A large bronze plague inscribed with the words, "Our True Heroes," to acknowledge that, without our veterans our freedoms would not even be possible, was added between the Arizona House and Senate buildings.
Jerry Weiers, who is the Chairman of the House Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee, was in-charge of the dedication of the memorial which was build entirely with donated labor and material.
